Inside Out
Artist and writer Sarah Khan reflects on the complexity of a cross-cultural existence in a homogeneous Western society
We’re proud to launch Tales from the Silk Road, a collaboration with Baesianz, a London-based collective of individuals from Asian origins aiming to produce, curate and exhibit voices of Asians living both within and outside of Asia. Stretching across the vastness of Eurasia, from the Black Sea to the Korean Peninsula, the Silk Road was an ancient trade route along which flowed silks and spices, gold and jade, teachings and technologies. Tales from the Silk Road will bring together stories and experiences of Asian filmmakers with an aim to teach and exchange by trading beauty and knowledge in the form of film.
Inside Out is a short film by artist and writer Sarah Khan that includes footage of everyday British-Pakistani culture, scenes shot in Hackney Marshes and archival material. Combined with a confessional poetic monologue and an original score by musician Nadia Tehran, the film reflects on the complexity and alienation of navigating a cross-cultural existence in a homogeneous Western society - the cycle of disconnect with environment and homecoming to self through honest embodiment.
